The Somme 1916 Museum in Albert offers a poignant journey into the daily lives of soldiers during the Battle of the Somme. Housed in a 250-meter-long underground tunnel, originally an air-raid shelter, the museum recreates trench life through a series of immersive dioramas with sound, light, and authentic artifacts. Visitors descend 10 meters below ground to experience the harsh realities faced by those who fought in 1916.

The Lochnagar Mine Crater is a vast and poignant reminder of the opening day of the Battle of the Somme. Located near La Boisselle, France, it was formed on July 1, 1916, when the British Army detonated a 60,000-pound mine beneath German lines. This immense explosion created a crater approximately 100 meters (330 feet) wide and 21 meters (69 feet) deep, one of the largest man-made craters of World War I. Today, it stands as a preserved memorial site, maintained and cared for by the dedicated Friends of Lochnagar association.

It includes the Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, which commemorates the 1,200 New Zealand soldiers who died in the Somme sector between August 1916 and February 1918 and have no known grave.
