The Château de Fontainebleau is also the birthplace of vast gardens and lakes Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte The impressive baroque castle is said to have inspired the Château de Versailles. Discover elaborate interiors and vaulted cellars and learn about the man behind this gigantic house, Nicolas Fouquet, Minister of Finance to King Louis XIV. When you're finished inside, wander outside to explore the castle's 40 hectares, made up of fountains, flower beds and vast lawns.
